LAKELAND | A Lakeland woman made good on her promise to “scorch the competition” on “Jeopardy!,” winning the show Thursday night and walking away with $28,900.

Meagan Grote will return to the show to compete again.

On the program’s Web site, Grote introduces herself briefly.

“Hi, Tampa Bay. I’m Meagan Grote from Lakeland, Fla., the Sunshine State. Watch me scorch the competition on “Jeopardy!”

The show's host, Alex Trebek, gives contestants answers and the first one to provide the correct question wins the dollar amount attached to the answer.

Grote wagered most of her winnings on the last answer: “His headstone, using a line from one of his scripts, says, “I’m a writer but then nobody’s perfect.”

She had the question correct, “Who is Billy Wilder?”

Grote competed against Greg Jones of Chincoteague Insland, Va., and Bill Menezes of Denver, Co.
