Shane McMahon Beating Up Randy Orton Was Beyond Ridiculous

Building off of the climatic ending of the Royal Rumble, Monday Night Raw was built up well but disappointed with a ridiculous ending that left all of us shaking our heads. Instead of firing Randy Orton, Stephanie McMahon claimed that she has "bigger things in store" for him.

Suddenly Shane McMahon's music hit as the prodigal son returned. Irate over Orton's attack to his father, a furious Shane McMahon attacked Randy Orton.

On paper, this would have seemed like a great angle. They actually did a good job of it up until the point where Shane McMahon threw his first punch. Wrestling, as we all know, is staged, but the kind of punches Shane McMahon was throwing looked more fake than an episode of Power Rangers.

Orton over-sold the pathetic punches and looked more beat up than if he had taken a pedigree. As Orton made his way to the ramp, Shane continued the attack but did a horrible job of selling the angle.

Randy Orton looked ten times more angry when begging Stephanie to fire him than Shane did when actually getting his hands on Orton. Granted, Randy is a far better actor. I will say, though, that I found it rather disappointing to see such a poorly performed confrontation when it had the potential to be so much better.

I have no problem with Randy Orton getting beat up, he "sells" and puts other people "over" better than anyone in the business. My issue is seeing someone of Orton's stature being beaten up by a very inferior physical competitor.

I'm honestly not trying to take a cheap shot at Shane McMahon. He has done some phenomenal things (look back to Unforgiven 2003); but last night was not one of them.

Randy Orton, a man who should be wiping the floor with John Cena in the main event of Wrestlemania should not be taken down to the floor by the likes of Shane McMahon.

As real as last week's Raw felt, this week's took a big turn for the worse. One can only hope that this situation is rectified within the coming weeks, otherwise the WWE would be letting go of what should be the storyline of the year.
