Crooked X’s ‘Rock N’ Roll Dream’ Chronicled In MTV Documentary

MTV told you about Crooked X, four 14-year-old hard-rockers from Oklahoma, back when MTV picked MTV Rock Rookies of 2009.

Well, today is a pretty huge day for these teens, who don’t play music like any teens MTV know. Their self-titled debut album is in stores now, and at midnight, a special mini-documentary on the band, “Crooked X: Rock N’ Roll Dream,” will premiere on MTV.

“The special is about our journey from playing at a place called Joe’s Crab Shack in Tulsa to opening for KISS for 35,000 people,” frontman Forrest French told MTV News. “It’s just the steps of what you go through to get up there. It’s only 30 minutes, but I guess if it goes well, it may turn into something bigger.”

Bigger means even more mainstream exposure for the teens, who have already had recent high-profile appearances on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and the halftime show at the final Dallas Cowboys game at Texas Stadium.

And, despite their age, a lot of fans have been won over during these live performances. “The first couple of songs, they’re like, ‘Hey, are they really playing?’ ” bassist Jesse Cooper said. “And then, three or four songs through the set, they’re going, ‘Hey, they really can do this!’ ”

Still think they’re just some novelty act? Let the documentary speak for itself. The band said that over 400 hours of footage was shot for the short doc — and the results should prove that this band is to be taken seriously.
