Joan Nathan is known for her cook books and PBS show Jewish Cooking in America with Joan Nathan. She needed help getting this dish down. Or up. Tom Colicchio, of Top Chef fame, saved the day when she started choking at a benefit for D.C. Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table.

Nathan had a piece of chicken lodged in her windpipe. Tom Colicchio came to the rescue, and performed the Heimlich maneuver on her and removed the piece of chicken. He said he was glad he was able to help. Colicchio stressed he was only doing what anyone else would have done.

“I just happened to be nearby,” Colicchio said.

Nathan was more expressive: “He’s so strong!” she said.

Thank G-d she’s OK. Can you imagine?
