Ahmedabad, Jan 11 (IANS) The two-day fourth Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit starting here Monday is likely to see a record number of investment proposals in renewable energy, particularly in the solar and wind energy segment, a senior state minister said Sunday.

‘The state government has received very good response in all four major sectors with several new and key players of the industry expressing their willingness to take advantage of the benefits being offered by Gujarat as the ideal investment destination,’ Energy and Petrochemicals Minister Saurabh Patel said.

‘These policies address climate change and global warming while simultaneously recognising the potential that Gujarat offers on this front,’ Patel said. ‘No wonder, several big names in the renewable energy sector have lined up to gain a foothold in Gujarat,’ he added.

Among the major players who have been attracted by the new policies in the renewable energy segment are Solitaire Energies (500 MW), Vestas Wind Energy Technology (1,000 MW), Abellon Bio-energy (1,000 MW), Suzlon Gujarat Windpark (1,500 MW), Next Gen Syndicate (310 MW), Astonfield Solar (200 MW), Enercon India (600 MW), Wellspun Urja, Caritas International and Swiss Park Vanijya Pvt Ltd (All three 100 MW each) and Moser Baer Energy (50 MW).

The conventional power sector too has attracted major companies like L&T Power Development that is set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state for a 1,680 MW imported/Indian-coal-based power plant at Junagadh and Hazira, Shapoorji Pallonji Energy (Gujarat) for a 2,000 MW plant, GMR for a 2,000 MW plant, Adani Power for a 2,000 MW power plant at Dholera, besides JSW, Torrent Power and others.

All MoUs will be signed between state officials and representatives of companies and industries in the presence of Chief Minister Narendra Modi Monday afternoon.
