Rife Two Bar Hybrid Putter Review

Hybrid cars are all the rage, so why not hybrid putters? Rife Putters presumes to have the answer.

Indeed, with its new Two Bar Hybrid putter, Rife aims to unite the best qualities of two existing models into a single stick. Is this marriage built to last?

Following is PutterZone.com’s Rife Two Bar Hybrid ($199) putter review.

The Storyline
Rife Putters hit the ground running when they released their first putters in 2005. The original Two Bar mallets and blades—so named for the distinctive weight bars protruding from the back of the face—were met with widespread acclaim.

In 2007, Rife launched its Island Series putters, skipping the Two Bar technology for more traditional designs, which included the successful Barbados mallet.

Now, with the Two Bar Hybrid, Rife has merged the Barbados design with its Two Bar technology. According to the company, “The most distinct features and performance benefits from both models have been blended into one new spectacular design that is a game improving ‘hybrid’ product in every sense of the word.”

The Hybrid is the first Rife putter to feature a face insert. Under the banner of “Dual Response technology,” this insert fuses anodized aluminum with high durometer polymer for enhanced feel.

The two "adjustable speed weighting" bars can be loaded with one of two pairs of included weights for a total head weight range of 345 grams to 360 grams.

As with all Rife putters, the Two Bar Hybrid also features the company’s patented RollGroove face groves, which are designed to impart truer roll; and the LieAline fitting system, whereby you can easily ascertain your correct lie angle and personally adjust the lie to fit your setup.

The Two Bar Hybrid comes with a LieAline bending tool, an instructional DVD and a head cover with a magnetic closure and a zippered pocket for storing the extra pair of weights.
The View from PutterZone.com
I’ve always found Rife putters to have an intangible coolness about them. Rife can take a traditional blade putter and somehow make it look fresh and hip. Rife can air infomercials without veering into “as seen on TV” territory. Rife can pack its putters with tons of features and freebies yet not seem gimmicky. Even the company’s putter model names, such as Aussie and Antigua, pass the cool test.

Now, Rife has taken the unusual step of merging its two most popular putters into one putter—and, not surprisingly, the results are pretty cool.

The Two Bar Hybrid effortlessly incorporates the Two Bar technology without disturbing the fundamental beauty of the Barbados, resulting in a putter that is truly the best of both worlds. In fact, the Hybrid incorporates the Two Bar design so well that you might wonder if it was all part of some master plan, and if the original Two Bar mallet and Barbados were individually engineered with this subsequent union in mind.

The blue Dual Response insert has a firm, crisp feel with perhaps a bit more suppleness than the original non-insert Two Bar mallet. I like the fact that Rife, while incorporating an insert for the first time, hasn’t gone the squishy route. The roll remains very solid off the face of the Hybrid.

I sank a 15 footer with my very first practice putt with the Hybrid, which made for a particularly pleasant first impression—one that endured over several sessions. I found the Hybrid to be very stable and excellent in matters of distance control. The Hybrid’s high MOI also helped keep my putts on the straight and narrow.

Rife’s self-serve lie adjustment technology is a brilliant piece of added value. With a few quick, gentle tugs, I was able to adjust the Two Bar Hybrid by a few degrees to fit my setup. The Two Bar adjustable weighting system is another nice feature. I like a heavier putter at 34 inches, so I happily loaded the Hybrid up to 360 grams. The bars themselves act as nice a three-dimensional alignment aid.

My only quibble is cosmetic in nature. On the bottom of the putter, the word “Hybrid” is stamped in a blocky font that resembles the Hummer logo (rather ironic for a putter named Hybrid), accompanied by airbrush-style blue striping. It all looks a bit awkward and out of place.

But what really counts is the top view, and from this vantage the Two Bar Hybrid is clean, quiet, confident and, of course, cool. While far from small, this putter manages to look sleek and shapely, making it one of the most visually appealing mallets on the market today.

The Bottom Line
The Rife Two Bar Hybrid is a high-performance putter that combines a distinctively sleek design with innovative customization. The Two Bar technology achieves its finest expression to date in the Hybrid, and the new face insert adds a fresh twist to the Rife experience. By maintaining its cool with the Two Bar Hybrid, Rife scores again.

The Death of Gia Carangi

Your Ad Here

With all due respect to Suzy Parker, Lauren Hutton, and even Janice Dickinson, the world's first supermodel was a wild child from Philadelphia with a European look and a dangerous side that would prove as prophetic as it was sexy...
Born in January 1960, Gia Carangi's childhood was marred by her parents' constant squabbling, which drove her to seek solace on the mean streets - and by the early Seventies few streets were meaner than those of North Philly; at the age of 17 she took off for Manhattan, and having worked for such noted fashion photographers as Francesco Scavullo, Arthur Elgort, Richard Avedon, and Chris von Wangenheim in short order she soon found herself the most sought-after fashion model in the world.

Regular readers of the Pop Culture Institute will be all too aware of the corrosive effects of fame on the young, effects which derailed not just the career but eventually as well the life of Gia Carangi...

A regular at famed nightspots Studio 54 and the Mudd Club, Carangi soon tried cocaine and eventually heroin, which would prove her downfall; the double shock of two deaths, one year apart - first of Gia's mentor Wilhelmina Cooper in March 1980 then that of Chris von Wangenheim in March 1981 - hastened Carangi's headlong slide when she chose to take solace in her addiction. Posing for her last Cosmopolitan cover in the winter of 1982, she was caught with drugs on a shoot in Africa in 1983 and her career was over.

The last five years of her life were spent in and out of various rehab and detox environments, punctuated by short-lived relationships with both women and men; Gia Carangi died on this day in 1986, one of the first prominent female figures to die of AIDS. The entire sad story - in which most of her highs were themselves lows - is told in Stephen Fried's book Thing of Beauty; the book was loosely adapted for television, and made into the 1998 TV-movie Gia, starring a then-obscure Angelina Jolie, who won a Golden Globe for her work.

Wenger Blasts Manchester City Slickers 'living in Different World'

Your Ad Here

source : http://www.buzzle.com/articles/245839.html

Arsène Wenger has labeled Manchester City as the "new Chelsea" and as he addressed questions connected to the ethics of the club's fortune, the Arsenal manager revealed that rivals in the transfer market already knew that it was pointless trying to compete with them.

"It's exactly what happened when [Roman] Abramovich came in [at Chelsea]," he said. "You go to a player, you see that Chelsea's on the case and you move somewhere else. That is it."

City's spending power under their new multi-billionaire owner Sheik Mansour, and perhaps a shift in the game's financial power base, was evident at the end of last summer's transfer window when they beat Chelsea to the signature of the striker Robinho from Real Madrid. Yet it has been thrust under an even more glaring spotlight this week, with their astonishing £100m move for the Milan playmaker Kaka.

Wenger, who is refusing to be held to ransom by Zenit St Petersburg for his midfield target Andrei Arshavin, has rarely hidden his contempt for the manner in which Abramovich has spent lavishly on players at Chelsea but he now has a fresh outlet for his scorn.

"I believe that if a club produces £100m through the way it manages itself, then it's not immoral to buy a player at any price," he said, when asked whether City's bid for Kaka felt morally wrong. "Because they can decide, 'Look … we have produced that kind of money, we can decide to spend it like we want'. In this case, it's a bit different because it's income from outside from one specific person or a group of persons."

Wenger is a passionate advocate for living within one's own financial means – "It is a satisfaction for a club to live within its natural resources," he repeated yesterday – and he has called for controls to make such policies mandatory. Are those who do not operate within the confines of their turnover effectively cheating? "It would be cheating if the rules wouldn't allow it," Wenger said. "The rules allow it so you cannot say it is cheating. It is unfair competition, maybe, but it is not cheating because the rules allow it."

Wenger was outspoken about City. "It does not look real," he said, about their overtures to Kaka. "It's like an abstraction. It does not look in connection to today's world. The implications would be disturbing for the market, an inflationary trend in a deflationary world. We live in the real world. City are in a different world."

The Frenchman harbours genuine fears about the impact of the global financial crisis on the game in this country. Through his policies, he believes he is safeguarding Arsenal against an uncertain future but he does not see City, in particular, as doing the same.

"At the moment, England loses 3,000 jobs every day," he said. "You think that has no consequence on our game? It will have. You can hide behind Man City buying Kaka for £100m but that is an exception to what is happening in our world. I believe that having responsibility is to anticipate the future.

"Everything depends on Abramovich and the guy who is investing at Man City," Wenger added. "If they get tired of it, they can stop it. But what I mean is that these are two clubs who do not have the same rules as other clubs. I don't know what are the reasons [behind the City takeover]. Is it love of Man City? Is it the love for an investment? But they have made it difficult for themselves because they bought on the doorstep of one of the biggest clubs in the world, [they bought] a club who already has a big rival there."

Wenger said that Arsenal remained in negotiations with Zenit over Arshavin but he was typically nonchalant about the deal, pointing out that the player was cup-tied in the Champions League and that his impact, should he arrive this month, would not be felt immediately.

"It is not an absolute worry because we have so many players who will come back soon [from injuries]," said Wenger. "We focus on them. Also, speaking about a player like Arshavin, he cannot play in the Champions League. If he comes here now, he will have 15-16 games and it will take five, six, seven, maybe 10 games to adapt. We are not in a hurry to do things like that and he is not the only player we are on. We spend the money we have and not the money we don't have."

lil folks cartoons

Your Ad Here

In the late 1940s, young Sparky Schulz wrote and drew “Lil Folks” for the St. Paul Pioneer Press. This was a cartoon feature about a group of VERY precocious children and a pet dog who make whimsical comments about the world they observe.

Sound familiar? You guessed it-it’s the forerunner of PEANUTS.

The story of the transformation of this one-panel cartoon to the more familiar comic strip we know of today is told in this book. Along with that, we get the entire run of “Lil Folks” cartoons. Still not enough? We also see comparisons of “Lil Folks” cartoons to the particular PEANUTS episodes that they would inspire a few years later.

As for “Lil Folks” itself, it’s quite interesting (historical reasons aside) witty, and amusing. Cartoons such as the Patty predecessor pouring a water can over a Charlie Brown prototype from a window while the pre-Charlie Brown says “Rain Rain Go Away, Come again some other day” are simply drawn and presented, but have a surreal and whimsical air about them. In another, a Schroder precursor jumps around the street on both feet while a nearby boy casually says to his friend, “I’ve always admired him-he’s so carefree.” This vision of childhood ranging from the realistically humorous to the bizarre would be carried to new heights as Schulz expanded into PEANUTS in 1950.

The book would seem to be aimed at cartoon historians and hardcore Schulz fantatics, judging by the price and often limited availability of this book (I’ve waited two years before being able to get my copy at an affordable price), but there’s no reason why the casual Peanuts fan would not enjoy this, so the folks at the schulz museum should make this more widely available. Get this with THE COMPLETE PEANUTS 1950-1952 to see the evolution of the most beloved cartoon strip of all time.

Jeff Monson charged with mischief; ESPN not an accomplice

Your Ad Here

Jeff Monson is either really dumb or really smart. I'm leaning towards the latter.

The fighter, who last appeared in the Mixed Fighting Alliance, winning over Ricco Rodriguez in December, has a warrant against him for defacing the Capitol building in Olympia, Wash. This warrant was issued after pictures of him painting an anarchist symbol on the building appeared in ESPN the Magazine.

See, Monson is an outspoken anarchist. He has said many times that he wants to do away with the social hierarchies that govern our world. The best way for Monson to share these theories is through the mass media, so publicity is his friend.

Is Monson so dumb that he would expect ESPN to not use photographs of him committing a crime? Of course not. This is a man with a Master's degree in psychology. He understands the ramifications of civil disobedience. If he didn't want attention brought to his cause, he would have asked ESPN to photograph him sitting at home, enjoying dinner.

Monson was charged with first-degree malicious mischief, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of a $20,000 fine and 10 years in prison. ESPN did not do him a favor by running that picture, but it's not their job to protect athletes. It's their job to cover them, a fact which Monson has used to make sure that everyone is discussing his cause today.

All about the Monster Miata

Your Ad Here

The "Monster Miata" was the creation and product of Monster Motorsports, a defunct California company. The Monster was a Miata with a Ford 5-liter (actually 4.9) cast-iron block/heads OHV pushrod engine and a Borg-Warner T-5 transmission. The swap was easily accomplished - almost unbelievably the entire engine and transmission fit into the Miata as though it had been designed by Mazda for it (everything fits under the stock hood!). That and some appropriate springs, cooling, and exhaust (restrictive) made up the basic technical package and the cost started at several thousand dollars and the car. The much heavier Ford engine did add about 4 percentage points to the front/rear weight balance - and the car takes a corresponding amount of care to drive in turns.

Somewhere over 275 Monster Miatas were claimed to be built by Monster Motorsports. A couple of hundred unofficial conversions were made by other companies, and kits remain available from them to this day. RX-7 conversions are also possible since much of the chassis is shared.

Unique - but subtle - badging inside and out identified the car to anybody getting close enough to notice. The appearance of the entire car was very stealthy until you started it up: deaf "opponents" wouldn't know what hit them. Everybody else would get an aural shock.

The Monster was known to be over-geared since the Miata differential gearing was well over 4:1. Even the optional (and much stronger) RX-7 differential posed a problem in this regards. Since the 4.9L Ford was not a high-revving engine, this was an issue for cruising, and the gearing certainly wouldn't contribute to engine reliability either. Later cars offered the option of a Lincoln Mark VIII aluminum differential with much more appropriate gearing. Even later cars offered the entire MN-12 Thunderbird rear suspension, with very large flares to cover the added width - although only a few were built like this. Some of these cars were labelled as "Mega Monster" Miatas. Pricing could sky-rocket with options.

Like all good things, the "production" conversions were built for several years. Unfortunately, Monster Motorsports as a company appears to have folded - the original website was shut down some time ago.

Contrary to popular belief, the roughly 225 HP bone-stock Ford engine was the only standard conversion offering, since the car had to meet California emissions regulations. Monster Motorsports also offered some additional power-adders if California aftermarket certification was available for the year it was offered. Of course, given the popularity of the Ford engine, many different power-adding enhancements could be made by owners to take HP up considerably. But the car still had to meet any emissions regulations of wherever it was eventually licensed.

Conversions are an interesting consideration for the enthusiast. California (and most state) laws allow engine conversions if the engine is from the same production year of the recipient car or newer. 4-cam Acura B16 engines are a popular swap in earlier Civics, and even better is a B18 or even an R model engine. There are also some very narrow circumstances where JDM engines that were never certified for the U.S. are certifiable in certain situations - you'll note a number of people swap engines in their 240SXs for the 2 liter turbo offered in Japan. One enthusiast in Dallas built a V-8 powered Lexus IS300 - an option the factory considered but never offered. But by and large conversions are becoming a thing of the past for late model cars, the electronics are becoming too difficult and the emissions certifications are legally and technically impossible. Swaps such as a late-nineties Supra TT engine into an S2000 would be impossible to certify and register in most counties given the trend of emissions laws and testing. But there is another reason to do swaps - and that's for the technical challenge. That's one reason I can understand.

Enthusiasts should also consider the value of a classic car.. Would an classic 240Z, for example, maintain it's value as a classic with a Chevy V-8 under the hood? The answer is a resounding "NO!", and technically the chassis is so dated anyway that the net functional result is debatable. The slightly more modern early Miata has a better chassis, but the functionality is still limited. But there are so many Miatas on the road their value as a classic is small-to-nil. So if a conversion is a must, then "Monster" the Miata!

The following car is currently offered for sale on eBay . This is a great example and from the ad it appears to be clean. It has the Mark VIII differential and some odd aftermarket headlamps, as well as Ford Motorsports GT-40 intake (I would check to see if it also received the proper matching heads and an appropriate cam). It would apparently be a worthwhile collectible - although I also feel that a close-up inspection would be advised.

This example has an added GT-40 intake. Note my suggestion above. All Monster Miatas used an open air filter - there wasn't room for anything else. Some sort of partition would have been a good idea so that the engine doesn't have to suck up hot engine compartment air at idle. Note that the car has AC, but not power steering.

Exhaust routing was a major problem - there was only room for a single exhaust pipe past the cats, although for the sake of appearance it does split at the bumper. The muffler in this example appears to be a flowmaster - which likely wasn't the original equipment. If this is the case, then the use of the car should be looked into - it may have been used for drag racing. You can also see that the new differential required customer mounts and half-shafts that are different from the original Mark VIII mounting design (the rearmost bushing isn't used). Many of us are familiar with that differential from it's later use in 1999-2004 IRS-equipped Mustang Cobras and it would be plenty strong for this engine.

Badging is custom-sewn into the seats (either factory cloth or leather). There is also a nicely made external badge on the top edge of the front bumper. Additional off-the-shelf Ford badging is also available.

The Monster Miata is definitely collectable. An example built by Monster Motorsports would be much preferred. Look for the proper paperwork to guarantee authenticity.

For the performance driving enthusiast, a Monster might work in some autocross classes, although it would be a fully prepared class and the competition would be very tough.

For open track events it's be at a disadvantage because of the tiny Miata brakes. Some big-brakes kits are avialable and would definitely be needed.

In either case, durability is a open question: will the 4-cylinder chassis hold up to V-8 torque? Certainly the Miata differential, control arms, mounting points, and rear wheel bearings would be potential issues. Straight-lining the car would be a very poor choice.

For the Sunday cruiser, the car would probably be a good alternative to a Sunbeam Tiger. Brakes, transmission, and cooling are probably all superior. The Tiger is far more collectible, and owners should certainly take care to preserve their examples. But the Monster Miata is more easily repairable, and given the very large numbers of Miatas available standard Miata parts are not likely to be an issue. Some re-welding and fabrication may be needed at some point to keep the rear suspension together.

Collectors will find several road tests are available, including two in Road & Track that I remember. Monster Miatas are very rarely for sale, and any potential buyers should look the car over very carefully and also get any and all original literature from the seller.

First on the list is V Balakrishnan, also known as Balki, is the former CFO of the global IT business at Wipro. According to industry circles, choice of the CFO will depend largely on who becomes the CEO. Since former Wipro Vice-Chairman Vivek Paul is seen as a favourite, the odds are in favour of Balki. Featuring next in the list is Alok Mishra. He is currently the CFO of WNS. Previously, he was the group CFO at Mphasis. He left the company last year after the EDS takeover.

Meet Katia Verber, the Paris Hilton of Russia. Katia is featured in the upcoming issue of Marie Claire where we get to know more about this beauty. Read her biography and check out photos here.
Katia Verber has been dubbed the Paris Hilton of Russia. That seems to have a stigma attached to it, so how much are the two heiresses a like? “Bentleys, Balenciaga bags, and VIP clubs with secret passwords” are just the beginning.

As a biography, Katia Verber is a 24-year-old heiress. She is the daughter of Alla Verber, the vice president of Russia’s biggest luxury retailer, Mercury. Mercury is responsible for bringing Dolce, Gucci, and Prada to Russia in the mid 90’s.

Katia helps run Mercury, acting as a buyer, but much like Paris she also spends a lot of her time running the social aspect of her entity, posing for Russian magazines and deciding which parties to attend. She is also chauffeured around in a gold Bentley, has a $7,000 state of the art titanium Vertu cell phone, and a designer handbag collection that any girl would kill for.

While the similarities may come to an end when it comes to material possessions, Katia is still famous for nothing. However, she is definitely one of Russia’s most stylish women and is also very stunning. As you can see from her pictures, she loves having a good time.

Check out more from her interview in the upcoming issue of Marie Claire!

UPDATE: Kendra: I Cheated On Hef For Sex (NOW WITH APOLOGY)

Your Ad Here

UPDATE FROM AN E! PRESS RELEASE FRIDAY AFTERNOON:

On the heels of an explosive interview this week where The Girls Next Door's Kendra Wilkinson came out against her former love's "lifestyle" and revealed some myths of the fabled Playboy Mansion, the blond beauty tells E! News exclusively how she apologized to Hef and sets the record straight on her comments. In the article Wilkinson talked about everything from her and Hef's sex life, to her 9pm curfew and the times she looked outside the relationship for intimacy.

"I'm more upset at myself with what I said," Wilkinson said. "I'm really bad at interviews and anyone who knows me knew I meant no harm...I'm a goofball. Mostly, I'm very sorry to have hurt Hef...Playboy made me who I am and Hef has done more for me than anyone else." So much so, that Wilkinson drove up to the Mansion in person to apologize to him and the staff.

When asked by Kennedy how Hef reacted to the controversial article, Wilkinson said he was hurt by what was said. "Hef understands me better than anyone and loves me no matter what. I am very thankful for him."...

When pressed about her comments from the article that she said she had sex outside of the relationship, Wilkinson admitted that she didn't mean to be so blunt about it. "I said I snuck sex every now and again and I can't take that back."

How Igneous Rock Is Formed

Your Ad Here

Igneous rocks are called fire rocks and are formed either underground or above ground. Underground, they are formed when the melted rock, called magma, deep within the earth becomes trapped in small pockets. As these pockets of magma cool slowly underground, the magma becomes igneous rocks.

Igneous rocks are also formed when volcanoes erupt, causing the magma to rise above the earth's surface. When magma appears above the earth, it is called lava. Igneous rocks are formed as the lava cools above ground.

For examples of igneous rocks, take a look at these:

Granite Rocks

Granite rocks are igneous rocks which were formed by slowly cooling pockets of magma that were trapped beneath the earth's surface. Granite is used for long lasting monuments and for trim and decoration on buildings.

See how igneous rocks are formed atIgneous Animation page.

Scoria Rocks

Scoria rocks are igneous rocks which were formed when lava cooled quickly above ground. You can see where little pockets of air had been. Scoria is actually a kind of glass and not a mixture of minerals.
See how igneous rocks are formed at Igneous Animation page.

Pumice Rocks

Pumice rocks are igneous rocks which were formed when lava cooled quickly above ground. You can see where little pockets of air had been. This rock is so light, that many pumice rocks will actually float in water. Pumice is actually a kind of glass and not a mixture of minerals. Because this rock is so light, it is used quite often as a decorative landscape stone. Ground to a powder, it is used as an abrasive in polish compounds and in Lava© soap.

Obsidian Rocks

Obsidian rocks are igneous rocks that form when lava cools quickly above ground. Obsidian is actually glass and not a mixture of minerals. The edges of this rock are very sharp.
