Your Ad Here

Kimora Lee Simmons and Oscar nominated actor Djimon Hounsou are reportedly expecting their first child together, Us magazine is reporting.
Simmons has two daughters from her previous marriage to Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons.

Kimora Lee, who runs the Baby Phat clothing empire she founded with her former husband, has said in the past that she would like to have more children.
Spotted by photographers at a restaurant in Beverly Hills on Thursday, Kimora held a large purse in front of her, presumably to shield the signs of her pregnancy.
Simmons and Hounsou have been dating for two years.

Rumors have been flying around all day that Kimora Lee Simmons is pregnant with Djimon Hounsou’s baby since US magazine reported as an exclusive that they were. It hasn’t been confirmed by Kimora or Djimon yet and people are still buzzing about it. This isn’t the first time it has been rumored that she is pregnant.

These pictures of Kimora were taken recently and by the looks of it I would say she is pregnant. It’s an old celebrity trick to hide your belly behind a big purse. Ashlee Simpson did that before she revealed she was pregnant too. Until then though we will keep you updated…

Remember Kevin Pittsnogle? He's Now 300 Pounds And Lives In A Trailer.

Your Ad Here

source

Once my favorite college basketball player in the world, Kevin Pittsnogle from West Virginia is now 300 pounds and lives in a double wide trailer with his wife who is a bank teller. It's not exactly what I'd hoped for, nor do I think it's what Pittsnogle hoped for.

Now, at 24, he is a middle school teacher in his hometown. He is also an unpaid assistant coach for a high school basketball team. He bowls in leagues three nights a week and occasionally plays bingo at Big Bucks Bingo. His wife, Heather, is a bank teller. They have two children and live in a double-wide trailer, and together they wonder how much appetite they have for uprooting their lives again so Pittsnogle can have one more chance at a basketball career.

Pittsnogle was never drafted by the NBA, and has spent time over the last few years in the CBA, the NBDL, and various other leagues. At the 2006 NCAA Tournament in Detroit, Michigan at the Palace of Auburn Hills during a late free throw shot I even shouted out my sports love for Pittsnogle as you can see on the Youtube video below.

Yes I was intoxicated by nonetheless you get the respect I had for a player as uniquely odd as Kevin Pittsnogle from West Virginia.

I still have sports love for Pittsnogle as he was one of a kind. What other goofy looking tattooed up big man could hit the three and big shots better than Pittsnogle? He was a redneck hero unmatched in the state of West Virginia. Now that he lives in a double-wide and has ballooned to 300 pounds only furthers his legend. Pittsnogle's story would make any West Virginian happy to know they could almost make a mark in the NBA before moving into their double-wide trailer.

HE WAS known as the Wizard of the North, idolised by Charlie Chaplin and an inspiration to Harry Houdini.
But now the monument that Walford Bodie bequeathed to his adopted hometown is set to perform a contentious vanishing act of its own.

After a dazzling career, which saw him perform to tens of thousands and become the toast of Edwardian London, Bodie retired to Macduff, where he erected a public fountain.
Now, plans have been lodged to move the monument to the Aberdeenshire town's newly-created maritime garden at a cost of around £20,000.

But the proposal has divided residents of the coastal community, with Bodie enthusiasts claiming the new plans are directly contrary to the wishes of their most famous son.

The Aberdeen-born magician gifted the fountain in 1909 and it was situated in the town's busy harbour to provide refreshment for fishermen and thirsty residents and visitors.

The monument was removed from the waterfront in the 1960s and rebuilt in a rarely-visited side street some distance away on Duff Street.

Over the years there has been a clamour to return the fountain to its original location, but now Banff and Macduff Community Council has lodged plans to relocate the landmark to a different site, at the town's Crook O'Ness street.

Chris Earl, who wants to open a small museum to Bodie in the property the magician had built in the town, was astonished at the decision.

The Bodie enthusiast said: "From being in pride of place at Macduff Harbour, the fountain was basically just slapped down on some concrete in a side-street where nobody goes and forgotten about.

"I was delighted when I heard there were plans to move it to a more suitable location, but I was amazed they weren't going to return it to the harbourside where it belongs.

"

But Ian Page, the chairman of Banff and Macduff Community Council, claimed the waterfront was not appropriate: "It is still a working harbour and there is a lot of activity there.

"We think the maritime garden is the right location as it is a nice open space with a good view over the harbour."

Bodie became hugely famous at the turn of the 20th century by harnessing the new technology of electricity to create breathtaking stage shows.

The young Charlie Chaplin came to see his performances and impersonated the dapper magician, who wore a cape and a waxed moustache, in his own stage shows.

Houdini was a great friend and admirer of the Scot and even purchased many of the props from his shows.

PATELLAR TENDON RUPTURES

Your Ad Here

ANATOMY & BIOMECHANICS

Figure 1: Frontal View of Normal Patellar Tendon and Extensor Mechanism.

The patellar tendon attaches to the tibial tubercle on the front of the tibia (shin bone) just below the front of the knee. It also is attached to the bottom of the patella (kneecap). At the top of the patella, the quadriceps tendon is attached. At the tope of the quadriceps tendon is the quadriceps muscle. The quadriceps muscle is the large muscle on the front of the thigh. As the quadriceps muscle contracts (shortens), it pulls on the quadriceps tendon, the patella, the patellar tendon, and the tibia to move the knee from a flexed (bent) position to an extended (straight) position. Conversely, when the quadriceps muscle relaxes, it lengthens. This allows the knee to move from a position of extension (straight) to a position of flexion (bent). (Click HERE for a computer animation of basic knee motion (mpg file) courtesy of Rob Kroeger.)

INJURY

When the patellar tendon ruptures, the patella loses its anchoring support to the tibia. Without this anchoring effect of the intact patella tendon, the patella tends to move superiorly (towards the hip) as the quadriceps muscle contracts. Without the intact patella tendon, the patient is unable to straighten the knee. If a rupture of the patella tendon occurs, and the patient tries to stand up, the knee will usually buckle and give way because the body is no longer able to hold the knee in a position of extension (straight).

DIAGNOSIS

The examination consists of palpating the patellar tendon and the patella. Usually, when the tendon ruptures, the patella moves upwards on the thigh. At the same time, the hole between the ends of the ruptured tendon is palpable on the front of the knee. X-rays of the knee reveal the abnormal position of the patella, indicating a rupture of the patella tendon.

Figure 2: Lateral View of Ruptured Patellar Tendon.

When x-rays are taken, the patella (kneecap), is seen to move away from the knee and towards the mid thigh (Figure 2) when compared to a normal knee x-ray (Figure 3).

Figure 3: Lateral View of Normal Knee with Intact Patellar Tendon.

TREATMENT

This is an injury that must be treated surgically. Since the tendon is outside of the joint, it cannot be repaired arthroscopically. Usually, the repair is done as an outpatient or overnight stay.

Figure 4: Surgical View of Ruptured Patellar Tendon (Yellow Circle).

An incision is made on the front of the knee, overlaying the tendon. The site of the tendon rupture is identified.

Figure 5: Surgical View of Ruptured Patellar Tendon (Yellow Circle) with Tendon Ends Retracted to Expose the Femur.

The tendon ends are retracted to allow inspection of the underlying joint and femur.
ANATOMY & BIOMECHANICS

Figure 6: Surgical View of Repaired Patellar Tendon (Yellow Circle) with Sutures Visible.

The tendon ends are identified and then sewn together. Afterwards, a cast or brace is often used to protect the repair. The length of time required for casting or bracing is usually a minimum of 6 weeks followed by several weeks of rehabilitation.

PROBLEMS

The usual risks of surgery are involved including: infection, stiffness, suture reaction, failure of satisfactory healing, risks of anesthesia, phlebitis, pulmonary embolus (blood clot in the lungs), and persistent pain or weakness after the injury and repair.

Fight #1 – Marcus Davis vs Chris Lytle

Rd 1 – Lytle struck first with a sweeping right hook that rocked Davis. After sprawling against the fence Marcus recovered and began exchanging. Lytle’s strikes appeared to do more damage and he became the stalker. As the round progressed, David settled down and began to time Lytle with effective counter shots. In the final minute, Lytle managed to open a small cut beneath Davis’ left eye.

Rd 2 – Once again Lytle opened strong with strikes. He trapped Marcus against the fence and unloaded a series of hooks, most of which landed on Davis’ gloves. Marcus escaped by running away at a full sprint. He slowed Lytle down with counters in the middle of the round but not as much as in round one. In the final minute Davis landed a nice jumping knee to Lytle’s face.

Rd 3 – Big round for Davis. He nailed Lytle with tons of counter punches and mixed in some knees and kicks to the body. Early in the round he landed a right punch to Lytle’s left eye that nearly closed it by the end of the round.

Winner: Marcus Davis by split decision 29-28, 29-28, 28-29

Fight #2 – Alan Belcher vs Denis Kang

Rd 1 – Kang landed multiple punches to Belcher’s face within the first 30 seconds but he still wanted to fight on the ground. He took Belcher down and moved around at will. Belcher kicked him off from guard, and the fight returned to standup. Kang immediately resumed the face pounding and eventually took Belcher down a second time. Again he hopped from guard to half to side mount, and attempted an Anaconda choke and a Kimura. Belcher defended well but he still lost the round decisively.

Rd 2 – The pace slowed in this round. Kang continued to dominate the fight but he did not land as many punches nor was he as active on the ground. There was a forced standup halfway through the round and with 40 seconds left the Irish crowd began to boo. Seconds later, Kang shot in, and Belcher caught him with a very tight Guillotine. Belcher dropped to his back, wrapped his legs around Kang’s midsection, and forced his opponent to tap.

Winner: Alan Belcher by tapout (Guillotine) at 4:36 of rd 2

Fight #3 – Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares

Rd 1 – The fight quickly hit the ground with Palhares in Horn’s guard. He soon took Horn’s back, got one hook in and began delivering shots to the side of the head. Horn twisted to his back and Palhares continued the beating from side mount. Several more transitions took place, and each time Palhares got the superior position and continued his striking attack. No matter where Horn moved, Palhares was on him punching away.

Rd 2 – The round started where the previous one left off: with Palhares all over Horn delivering blows from the dominant position. At around the halfway mark, Horn temporarily turned the fight in his favor. He managed to get the full mount on Palhares and nearly sunk an arm triangle. In the ensuing standup Horn landed some good strikes. The round ended with Palhares in Horn’s guard doing some ground and pound.

Rd 3 – Palhares tossed Horn with a suflex and went to work from the top position. The rest of the round saw very little action. Palhares remained in Horn’s guard landing light blows.

Winner: Rousimar Palhares by unanimous decision (30-27 on all three cards.)

Fight #4 – Tom Egan vs John Hathaway

John Hathaway gave hometown boy Tom Egan a whooping. He controlled the entire fight and never gave Egan a moment to breathe. The end came when Hathaway began landing elbows to the side of Egan’s head from the full mount.

Winner: John Hathaway by TKO (strikes) at 4:36 of rd 1

Fight #5 – Mark Coleman vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

Rd 1 – Coleman was shot after a couple of minutes. He spent all of his energy during the first takedown and subsequent ground and pound. Shogun hung tough and eventually turned the tables on Coleman. Toward the end of the round he landed some nasty leg kicks, punches to the face and some nice knees. He came close to finishing but tempered his pace instead of going balls out.

Rd 2 – After exchanging strikes, Coleman scored another takedown. Rua escaped, and began landing some punishing blows to Coleman’s face. Mark was too tired to keep his hands up so he just had to take the blows. Mark managed another takedown after Rua tried plumb. Rua escaped again, resumed the beating, and Mark scored another takedown. Rua clamped on a shoulder lock in the final minute but was unable to force Coleman to tap.

Rd 3 – Both guys were exhausted. Mark was able to shoot but that’s about it. Both guys pretty much stopped and collapsed to the ground after Mark grabbed Rua’s midsection. Mark was able to muster some energy and began throwing some elbows to Rua’s face. Rua moved and began pulling on Coleman’s leg hoping to set up a knee bar. Mark fought it off and took Rua’s back. He continued some slow motion ground and pound until Rua escaped. Rua threw a knee to Coleman’s chest and the ref mistakenly halted the action to warn Rua. In the final standup Rua landed some big punches including a vicious uppercut that dropped Coleman. Referee Kevin Balhall made a second mistake by stopping the fight because Mark immediately scrambled for a takedown after the knockdown. Despite the two errors from referee Kevin Balhall, his actions did not change the winner of the fight since Rua had won the first two rounds.

Winner: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua by TKO (strikes) at 4:36 of rd 3

Fight #6 – Dan Henderson vs Rich Franklin

Rd 1 – Ace blocked a hard right and then avoided a big kick from Dan but lost his footing. Dan began unloading some nasty ground and pound from the side ala Tank Abbott-Hugo Duarte. Ace finally escaped and began throwing kicks while Henderson concentrated on punches. An accidental headbutt caused a cut on Ace’s forehead.

Rd 2 – The round was fought standing until Henderson scored a takedown at the halfway point. Ace did a good job neutralizing him. Dan managed to land a few decent strikes from the top position toward the end of the round.

Rd 3 – Ace’s punches and kicks did some nice damage before Dan took him down. Again Ace played defense well and stifled Dan’s ground and pound. Ace escaped and continued to dominate the standup. With 30 seconds left Dan accidentally poked Ace in the right eye. Fortunately he was able to finish the fight.

Winner: Dan Henderson by split decision 29-28, 30-27, 28-28

East West Shrine Game Report

Your Ad Here

HOUSTON – Practices drew to a close late this week as the East and West teams got down to the business at hand: preparing for today’s Shrine Game at Robertson Stadium on the University of Houston.

More special teams, two-minute drills and even a few gadget plays were par for the course. The energy level was high as players seemed anxious to finally hit someone on the other roster.

Friday’s schedule consisted of a one-hour walk-through for both teams followed by the annual banquet. The featured guest was Shrine Game Hall of Fame inductee Doug Williams, the former Grambling State quarterback who won the Super Bowl with the Washington Redskins.

Here are some prospects I have yet to update and a couple of others who have given me more information after Thursday’s workouts:

EAST ROSTER

–Northeastern TE Brian Mandeville: Has done a good job catching the ball. Has been able to get a clean release most of the time and made several athletic catches. A little stiff as a runner as I do not think he always plays to his 40 times. Has room to get bigger, especially in the upper body. Did a better job than expected when called on to block but was thrown to the side by West Virginia linebacker Mortty Ivy on a run play during team drills.

–Kentucky LB Johnny Williams: Has looked good as a late addition to the roster. Moves well for his size, gets good depth on his drops and shows the type of hustle that could earn a roster spot this summer as a back-up outside linebacker and special teams player. Several teammates have noted that he’s one of the hardest workers here and someone they’ve grown to respect in a short period of time.

–Georgia LB Dannell Ellerbe: Has not been the active playmaker he was on game film as a junior. Does have the ability to play multiple spots in the pros but now seems more of a late-round prospect than a second- or third-rounder as previously thought. Waiting to see that spark that was missing most of his senior campaign. In the right system, he could still develop into a starting linebacker at the NFL level.

–Cincinnati DB Brandon Underwood: Has shown the raw tools to be considered in first 3-4 rounds along with his two senior teammates, who will be playing in next week’s Senior Bowl. Nice size, long arms and has broken up several passes. The Ohio State transfer says he will run in the 4.4 range but seems to take a little longer to reach full speed than some of the similar size defenders in this game.

–Rutgers S Courtney Greene: Has good natural size and runs pretty well, but he lacks ideal instincts and has not shown great ball skills during practices. He has been right there on several plays and allowed the receiver to make the catch. Shows good range and has tried to come up on a few plays to lay a big lick, but his timing is not always on the mark.

–Florida State K/P Graham Gano: Shows a nice leg in practice, hitting on most of his field goals. Has turned over some of his punts during his warm up action and seems like he could be a reliable guy if asked to do both chores at the NFL level. Looking forward to judge his kickoffs during the game and the hang times on his punts.

WEST ROSTER
-Fresno State QB Tom Brandstater: Flashed the type of arm strength that teams desire in a pocket passer. Threw some good deep balls when he got his feet set under him. Can still be erratic at times with his accuracy, and I do not think he has the best natural intangibles of the QBs in this game. But he does have enough tools.

–Texas A&M QB Stephen McGee: Had a very good week and now has scouts talking about watching film from sophomore and junior seasons. Has a live arm, is active in the pocket, made good reads and showed the ability to run with the ball if he has to pull it down.

–Colorado State RB Gartrell Johnson: While some have criticized his lack of game-breaking speed, I’ve noticed that he runs with the same speed, desire and toughness on most of his carries. May not break too many long runs in the NFL, but if he carries the ball more than 15-20 times, he will start to wear on opponents. I like him as a change-of-pace type back for an offense like the Houston Texans; pairing him with a slasher-type guy like Steve Slaton would give them a nicely balanced running attack.

–California LB Anthony Felder: Received far less media attention than either of his former college teammates the past two years, but he looked good in space. Gets good depth on his drops and made a number of plays on film this season considering his two teammates are also in college all-star games.

–USC LB Kaluka Maiava: Related to former WWE wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Has very good speed, shows good strength against the run and was able to get out and make plays during the week. Rarely stays blocked and was very active. Sees the play quickly and takes proper angles to the ball.

–Hawaii CB Ryan Mouton: A little shorter than ideal, so some evaluators might write him off as a nickel or dime defender at the next level. He’s a fluid runner with good hips and has been able to turn and run with all of the West receivers. Will also be a solid contributor on special teams; can return kickoffs and punts. Says he will run in the 4.3 range in the 40-yard dash.

–USC CB Cary Harris: Will not play in the game because of a minor hamstring injury he sustained earlier this week. He’s the second Trojans defender to opt out after an injury, joining safety Kevin Ellison. Did a very good job in practices, and several noted that he was one of the better senior defenders on the west coast. His 40 times at the NFL Combine will be important to his progress up the charts.

GAME DAY PREVIEW

The game is probably more important to the players than to NFL scouts and evaluators, most of whom are already gone. However, there is a short list of players on each roster who either need to continue their solid play from practice or change the minds of scouts by coming up big today. Among them:

East: Tennessee State RB Javarris Williams, South Carolina OT Jamon Meredith, South Florida WR Taurus Johnson, Norfolk State CB Don Carey and Memphis DL Clinton McDonald.

West: Texas A&M QB Stephen McGee, Boise State RB Ian Johnson, Rice WR Jarett Dillard, San Jose State DL Jarron Gilbert and Texas CB Ryan Palmer.

WHAT THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL POST IS HEARING…

* Area scouts from the south and west were mixed in their evaluations of the two star quarterbacks to enter the NFL Draft this week, but they agreed that the Detroit Lions will face a tough decision picking between Georgia’s Matthew Stafford and USC’s Mark Sanchez. They could also look at offensive tackle with the No. 1 pick, then take a quarterback later in round one with the choice they have from the Dallas Cowboys.

* Kentucky defensive tackle Myron Pryor replaced Stillman (Ala.) defensive lineman Sammie Lee Hill in the game after Hill suffered a minor hamstring injury. Pryor’s spot in the Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Challenge has been accepted by Shaw University defensive tackle Louis Ellis, a former Mississippi State recruit who has a chance to impress in two weeks at El Paso.

* Maryland outside linebacker Moise Fokou has been invited to the Senior Bowl, so his spot in the Texas vs. the Nation Challenge has been accepted by Notre Dame linebacker Maurice Crum.

*Arizona wide receiver/return man Mike Thomas was added to the Senior Bowl roster, according to a source.

FDA, CDC: Don't Eat Peanut Butter Products

Your Ad Here

Jan. 17, 2009 -- The FDA and CDC are recommending that consumers not eat products containing peanut butter (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy, and ice cream) until information becomes available about whether those products are linked to an ongoing salmonella outbreak that may have contributed to six deaths.

At least 474 people in 43 states have been sickened by the outbreak strain of Salmonella typhimurium. Peanut butter has been associated with the outbreak. Peanut butter and peanut paste made by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) at a facility in Blakely, Ga., have already been recalled in the wake of the outbreak.

On January 16, the FDA asked food makers nationwide to check whether their peanut-containing products include a recalled peanut paste made by PCA and to recall or hold those products as a precaution.

Here is advice from the FDA and CDC for consumers:

* Don't eat recalled products. Throw them away in a manner that prevents others from eating them.
* Postpone eating other peanut butter containing products (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy, and ice cream) until information becomes available about whether that product may be affected.
* People who think they may have become ill from eating peanut butter are advised to consult their health care providers.

Peanut Butter Recall Recap

The FDA is posting recall notices on its web site. But the salmonella investigation is ongoing, and more recalls may be in the works.

"The list of products that may be affected is still being determined and is incomplete at this time, states the CDC's web site. The FDA is working with product manufacturers to make that list, "which may be extensive," states the CDC.

Health officials say that national, name-brand peanut butters sold in grocery stores haven't been linked to the outbreak. PCA's peanut butter wasn't sold directly to consumers; instead, it was sold in bulk for institutional and food service industry use.

Today, Hy-Vee Inc. recalled peanut butter products made in the chain's bakery departments in seven states -- Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota -- because they contain PCA peanut butter. The products are: Peanut Butter Cookies, Monster Cookies, Peanut Butter Reese's Pieces Cookies, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, Lunchbox Reese's Pieces Cookies, Lunchbox Peanut Butter Cookies, People Chow Party Mix, and Assorted Truffle Fudge. All sell-by dates are included in this recall. The products are sold in various packaging and quantities and have a Hy-Vee price label attached. All items should be destroyed or returned to Hy-Vee for a full refund.

On Jan. 16, Kellogg announced a voluntary recall of certain Austin and Keebler brand peanut butter sandwich crackers because PCA was one of its suppliers. The recall also includes some snack-size packs of Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Peanut Butter Cookies.
Here is a complete list of Kellogg's recalled products:

* Austin Quality Foods Cheese Crackers with Peanut Butter -- all sizes
* Austin Quality Foods Cheese & Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers -- all sizes
* Austin Quality Foods Mega Stuffed Cheese Crackers with Peanut Butter -- all sizes
* Austin Quality Foods PB & J Cracker Sandwiches -- all sizes
* Austin Quality Foods Super Snack Pack Sandwich Crackers
