U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter did not attend a town hall meeting today at Dickinson College because he was in a closed-door meeting in Washington discussing the economic stimulus package that is before the Senate.
Instead, members of the senator's staff spoke by video conference from Washington and answered questions from the audience in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.
"He hasn't committed to vote yes or no in its current form," said Matt Kelly, one of Specter's legislative assistants in Washington. "Aside from the spending, the big piece of this is tax cuts." Specter has stated he wants more tax cuts and infrastructure funding in the bill.
A majority of the audience's questions focused on the amount of spending in the stimulus bill.
